Is an economic downturn the best time to go travelling?

With all of this talk about economic crisis etc - Is this actually a good time to take a year out?

Us Brits have had a bit of hit against the pound so we probably won't feel as well off as we used to... But if you've been made redundant and have a nice little pay-out, it is tempting isn't it? Especially if the likelyhood of getting a new job isn't looking promising in the near future.

Is it best to take that sabbatical you've always wanted and come back when the dust has settled?

I've already decided that if

I've already decided that if i'm made redundant i'll be renting out my flat and heading off for a trip around Spain and Portugal. I'd be a bit worried about the price of the Euro, but I think with my little 206, tent and a box of red wine I could make it a cheap trip

I would most definitely be

I would most definitely be tempted! But hopefully it won't come to that..instead I've got budget travel fever. Planning a trip to Turkey to stay in a treehouse-style hostel near Antalya..for the bargain price of £6 a night!
